Private Flute Lessons and Performance Coaching, Adjudication, Clinics Chamber, Orchestral, and Solo Performances
South Bay Flute Studio (located in Torrance, California) is the performance training studio of Lise Friisbaastad Slack, professional flutist with over 15 years of private and group instruction experience. Lise loves to teach and her students continue on to performing in college and community groups with some becoming music teachers as well. One of Lise's specialties is teaching adult beginners and those returning to study music after many years.
Students include 4th grade through 12th grade as well as college students and adults. Most younger students are members of their school band or orchestra programs and are encouraged to take auditions whenever possible to enhance their performance training.
Several current students have won auditions for honor groups including the Four Seasons Orchestras (La Primavera), SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Band, Irvine USD and Huntington Beach UHSD Honor Bands, the Northern California Flute Camp, as well as taking auditions for many other groups.
An annual recital is held in the Spring showcasing students' areas of study and progress.
In addition, Lise is the flute instructor for Mater Dei and Huntington Beach High Schools as well as Chamber Woodwinds Instructor for the Academy for Performing Arts Program at Huntington Beach High School and also teaches special clinics and classes at other schools.
As a performer, Lise is a member of the Orange County Wind Symphony, a professional Wind Ensemble. She has appeared as soloist on the Orange Coast Chamber Music Series, with the Irvine Valley College Symphony Orchestra, and has held Principal Flute positions with several local orchestras. She is the founder and manager of The Plein Air Wind Quintet and works also as a free-lance flutist.
